Maracatu Estrela do Norte
was founded in Febuary 2002 by Sam Alexander. The group is based
in a chruch building in Vauxhall, and is the latest group to have
been associated with Sam and the venue, including Bloco Acorda
Povo, Acorda Povo Dance Company, Street Nation Band and Bloco
Abalô.
Maracatu Estrela do Norte run percussion courses and a performing
group playing traditional Maracatu instruments and music from
North East Brazil. Please see the workshops

As well as performances throughout the country, the group makes it's
presence felt every year at the Notting Hill Carnival and also provides
the core for the peace making carnival activities of the ' Anarchist
Republic of the VACA LOUCA'.
